The Frio River in Concan, Texas is one of the most popular destinations in the Hill Country, known for its clear spring-fed waters, tubing, kayaking, and family-friendly rentals.

Water levels on the Frio River change throughout the year based on rainfall and local water use in the surrounding area.  After heavy rainfall, the river can flow strong—ideal for tubing, kayaking, and swimming. Water levels can drop due to certain factors.

Some days might be a little more float-friendly than others, but the truth is—there’s no wrong day to be at the Frio River!  

The perfect tubing conditions on the Frio River usually happen when water flows between 25 and 500 cubic feet per second (cfs). Here’s what that means for your float:

🚶 Low Flow (below 100 cfs) – Expect a slow ride with plenty of shallow spots where you might need to get out and walk your tube.

😊 Great Flow (100–300 cfs) – This is tubing sweet spot! The current moves you along at a nice pace, and most areas are deep enough to float comfortably without touching bottom.

⚡ Fast Flow (300–500 cfs) – The river moves quickly and can be exciting, but the faster current makes steering and navigating trickier, especially for kids or first-time tubers.

🌪 Very Fast Flow (above 500 cfs) – The water is strong and powerful. Extra caution is needed as the river can be dangerous at these levels.
